WNBA All-Star Jia Perkins is born in Newburgh, New York.

1985

NBA Coach of the Year winner Mark Daigneault is born in Leominster, Massachusetts.

During an Indiana loss to Purdue, coach Bobby Knight throws a chair onto the court in protest of the officiating.

1986

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar breaks Elvin Hayes’ record with his 1,304th NBA game played and does it fittingly at age 38 by scoring 28 points in a 117-111 Lakers win over the 76ers. Abdul-Jabbar’s record stands for over a decade before getting broken by Robert Parish.

1987

Nate McMillan ties Ernie DiGregorio’s rookie record for assists in a game, with 25 in a 124-112 SuperSonics win over the Clippers. It also still stands as the Thunder single game franchise record.

1994

During a Cavaliers win over the Bullets, Brad Daugherty leaves the game with back soreness, which was later found to be a herniated disc that required surgery. It would prove to be the final game of his brief but brilliant NBA career, though he would not officially retire until 1996.

1995

Andrew Wiggins is born in Toronto, Canada. His American father, Mitchell, was playing pro basketball in Greece at the time while his mom, Marita, was born in Barbados and represented Canada in track and field at the 1984 Olympics.

1996

NBA All-Star D’Angelo Russell is born in Louisville, Kentucky.

1997

Jamal Murray is born in Kitchener, Canada. He was teammates with fellow future NBA player Thon Maker at Orangeville Prep.

1999

Dennis Rodman signs as a free agent with the Lakers. His time in Los Angeles ultimately lasts less than two months before he gets waived.

2010

Former NBA All-Star Jayson Williams is sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated assault, related to a 2002 incident in which a limousine driver was killed on his property. It ends a lengthy legal process that also included a $2.5 million settlement with the family of the deceased. Williams would ultimately serve two years and three months before getting released on parole.

2011

Deron Williams is traded from the Jazz to the Nets in exchange for Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, and two first round picks. Just two weeks before the transaction, legendary Jazz coach Jerry Sloan had retired mid-season, reportedly due to conflicts with Williams.

2020

Dwyane Wade has his jersey #3 retired by the Heat. Over 15 seasons with Miami, Wade made 13 All-Star teams, was All-NBA eight times, won three championships, and earned Finals MVP in 2006. He also retired as the franchise’s all-time leader in points, assists, and steals.

2025

Andre Iguodala has his jersey #9 retired by the Warriors in a postgame ceremony. He spent eight seasons with the franchise, winning four championships and earning Finals MVP in 2015.
