1980
It’s an eventful NBA All-Star Game in Landover, Maryland (then the home site of the Washington Bullets), a 144-136 Eastern Conference victory over the West in overtime. It’s the All-Star debut of rookies Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, with the former becoming the youngest ever All-Star at the time (at 20 years old) and the latter hitting the first three-point field goal in All-Star history. George Gervin leads all scorers with 34 points and is named MVP while Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sets the still standing single All-Star Game record with six blocks.
1987
During a Rockets loss to the Nuggets, Ralph Sampson slips on the court and suffers a cartilage tear in his knee, necessitating arthroscopic surgery. He returns six weeks later in a rushed decision that arguably cost him his athleticism for the remainder of his career.
2000
Dennis Rodman signs as a free agent with the Mavericks, ultimately lasting just 12 games before getting waived, effectively ending his NBA career.
Clyde Drexler has his jersey #22 retired by the Rockets. The 10-time All-Star’s jersey would also be retired by the Trail Blazers a year later.

Scoot Henderson is born in Marietta, Georgia.
2010
Phil Jackson surpasses Pat Riley as the Lakers’ all-time coaching wins leader with his 534th, a 99-97 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.
2024
Stephen Curry becomes the second oldest player in NBA history to score 60 or more points in a game, finishing with 60 in a 141-134 Warriors loss to the Hawks. At 35 years and 326 days, Curry trails only Kobe Bryant, who capped his career in 2016 with a 60-point performance at age 37.
2025
Devin Booker surpasses Walter Davis as the Suns’ all-time leading scorer, with his 15,667th point during a 121-119 loss to the Trail Blazers. Davis had held the record for 38 years.
