The NBA league office and Players Association agree in principle on a new collective bargaining agreement, signaling an end to the second longest labor stoppage in league history. The terms are mostly friendly to the owners, including a reduction in the players’ share of Basketball Related Income (BRI) from 57% to 51%.

Sue Wicks is born in Center Moriches, New York. In 1991, she was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in Long Island.

Shawn Kemp is born in Elkhart, Indiana. He was a McDonald’s All-American in 1988 while starring for Concord High School.

John Amaechi is born in Boston, Massachusetts. He moved to the Manchester area with his English mother in childhood and later represented the English national team in numerous competitions.
1975
China finishes a dominant run at the FIBA Asia Cup in Bangkok, defeating Japan 80-59 in their final game to clinch a gold medal. Competing for the first time ever as the Chinese mainland (they had previously been represented by Taiwan), they won all nine of their games by 20 points or more. Japan finishes with the silver medal, South Korea gets bronze, and India has its best ever finish, in fourth place.
1990
Avery Bradley is born in Tacoma, Washington. He was AAU teammates at one point with NBA contemporary Isaiah Thomas.
1996
Malik Beasley is born in Atlanta, Georgia. His grandfather, John, was an actor and had roles in numerous sports films, including Rudy, The Mighty Ducks, and Little Big League.
2000
John Stockton plays in his 1,271st career game with the Jazz, breaking John Havlicek’s record (set with the Celtics) for most games with one franchise.
