
1985
George Gervin is traded from the Spurs to the Bulls in exchange for Dave Greenwood. Gervin had spent his prior 11-and-a-half seasons in the ABA and NBA with San Antonio, making 11 All-Star teams, winning four scoring titles, and becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. He ultimately played just one season in Chicago before closing out his career in Europe.
1959
Wilt Chamberlain finishes with 43 points and 28 rebounds in his NBA debut, a 118-109 win for the Philadelphia Warriors over the Knicks. At season’s end, Chamberlain was named both Rookie of the Year and league MVP.
1976
For the third time before he ever stepped foot on an NBA court, Moses Malone is traded, going from the Buffalo Braves to the Rockets in exchange for two first round picks (he had been traded from the Trail Blazers to the Braves just six days prior).
1987
NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Jeremy Evans is born in Monroe, Louisiana.
1990
Nikola Vucevic is born in Morges, Switzerland, where his Montenegrin father, Borislav, was playing basketball professionally. His Serbian mother, Ljiljana, also played basketball for the Yugoslavian national team.
1996
Jaylen Brown is born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was named Georgia Mr. Basketball in 2015, after leading Wheeler High School to the state title.
