2000

In a blockbuster, four-team trade, Patrick Ewing ends his 15 years with the Knicks by getting dealt to the SuperSonics. The Knicks receive Glen Rice, Luc Longley, Vernon Maxwell, Travis Knight, and two first round picks in return. Meanwhile, the Lakers received Horace Grant and the Suns received a first round pick. Ewing, who had just turned 38, had requested a trade earlier in the summer when the Knicks had declined offering him a contract extension.

The United States men’s survives an early challenge in group stage play at the Seoul Olympics, defeating Canada 76-70. Hersey Hawkins leads the U.S. with 13 points, while Canada, who led the game 42-40 at halftime, gets 25 points from Alan Kristmanson and 15 from future Raptors coach Jay Triano.

1993

Kyle Anderson is born in New York, New York.

2005

The Sacramento Monarchs defeat the Connecticut Sun 62-59 in game four of the WNBA Finals, clinching their first championship. Yolanda Griffith finishes with 14 points and 10 rebounds and is named Finals MVP. The series is also notable as the first time the WNBA Finals expanded to a best-of-five format.

2009

Spain wins its first ever EuroBasket title with an 85-63 victory over Serbia in the Final in Katowice, Poland. Pau Gasol leads the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds and is named tournament MVP. Greece defeats Slovenia 57-56 in the third place game.

2015

Pau Gasol finishes with 25 points and 12 rebounds as Spain defeats Lithuania 80-63 in the EuroBasket Final in Lille, France. Gasol was named tournament MVP for the second time, and finishes as the tournament’s leading scorer for the third time. France defeats Serbia 81-68 in the third place game.
