The NBA announces that the jersey #6 is officially retired for all franchises, in honor of the late Bill Russell, who had passed away 11 days earlier at age 88. Any player who wore #6 during the ’21-’22 season was grandfathered and allowed to continue as such.

Patty Mills is born in Canberra, Australia. As of 2024, he’s the all-time leader in NBA scoring amongst Australians.

Kyle Guy is born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was named Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2016 while starring for Lawrence Central High School.

Iran defeats the host Philippines 85-71 in the FIBA Asia Cup final in Manila. Hamed Haddadi finishes with 29 points and 16 rebounds and is named tournament MVP for the third time. South Korea defeats Chinese Taipei 75-57 for the bronze medal.
2020
Damian Lillard ties his own Trail Blazers single game franchise record with 61 points, along with eight assists, in a 134-131 victory over the Mavericks in “The Bubble” in Orlando, Florida.
2021
DeMar DeRozan is traded from the Spurs to the Bulls in exchange for Al-Farouq Aminu, Thaddeus Young, a first round pick, and two second round picks.
2024
The United States women’s team earn their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal with their 61st straight win in Olympics play, a 67-66 victory over France in Paris. A’ja Wilson finishes with 21 points and 13 rebounds and is named tournament MVP. The one-point differential is the closest game the U.S. women had played during their winning streak, and marked only the third time in those 61 wins that the margin of victory was within single digits.
