For the first time ever, the #1 overall pick in the NBA Draft is a player with no college experience, as the Wizards select high school phenom Kwame Brown. Despite his obvious talent and playing under the tutelage of team president Michael Jordan, Brown never materializes as a star player for Washington. Eventual Rookie of the Year winner Pau Gasol is drafted third overall by the Hawks, who then trade his rights to the Grizzlies.
