Game six of the NBA Finals is arguably the greatest in NBA history, a back-and-forth battle that ends with an improbable Heat comeback topped off by a Ray Allen three-pointer to force overtime, where Miami prevails over the Spurs 103-100 to even the series at 3-3. San Antonio led by 10 points heading into the fourth quarter but their offense falls apart down the stretch, including key missed free throws from Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard. LeBron James finishes with 32 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds.

George Mikan is born in Joliet, Illinois. He spent a year–and-a-half of his youth immobile due to a broken knee.

1932

The Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA) is founded in Geneva, Switzerland, forming the first international governing body for the sport of basketball.

1937

NBA Coach of the Year winner Del Harris is born in Dale, Indiana.

1964

A blockbuster trade between the Bullets and Pistons involves four All-Stars, with Terry Dischinger and Don Kojis going to Detroit, while Bailey Howell and Don Ohl are sent to Baltimore.

1985

The Knicks select Patrick Ewing out of Georgetown with the #1 overall pick in the NBA Draft The class includes three other future Hall of Fame inductees, with Chris Mullin (St. John’s) going to the Warriors at #7, Karl Malone (Louisiana Tech) going to the Jazz at #13, and Joe Dumars (McNeese State) going to the Pistons at #18.

1989

Puerto Rico upsets the United States 88-80 in the FIBA AmeriCup final in Mexico City. Oscar Schmidt leads Brazil over Venezuela 158-124 in the bronze medal game.

2001

Evan Mobley is born in San Diego, California. He was teammates at Rancho Christian High School with his older brother Isaiah.

2021

With a 131-119 victory over the Jazz in game six of the Western Conference Semifinals, the Clippers reach the Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history, breaking a drought of 40 years. Terrance Mann finishes with 39 points for Los Angeles, who was without an injured Kawhi Leonard for the last two games of the series.
