A scheduled Jazz-Thunder game in Oklahoma City is mysteriously postponed right before tip-off, with the explanation later that it was due to Utah’s Rudy Gobert testing positive for COVID-19. Four other scheduled games take place that evening but commissioner Adam Silver soon after announces that the season is being suspended indefinitely due to the pandemic.

1963
Loyola-Chicago defeats Tennessee Tech 111-42 in a first round NCAA Tournament game, setting the still-standing tournament record for largest margin of victory (69 points). This was the tournament debut for both teams and as of 2025, Tennessee Tech has not made a return appearance.
1967
North Carolina and Duke face off in the ACC Tournament championship game for the first time ever, with the Tar Heels prevailing 82-73 in Greensboro, North Carolina. It marks the first ACC title for UNC under head coach Dean Smith.

Becky Hammon is born in Rapid City, South Dakota.
1979
Elton Brand is born in Cortlandt Manor, New York.
1984
During a night out at Studio 54 in New York, David Thompson gets into a scuffle with a bouncer and is pushed down the stairs, tearing a ligament in his knee and ending his NBA career.
1993
Anthony Davis is born in Chicago, Illinois.
1999
Harold “The Show” Arceneaux leads the way with 36 points as #14 seed Weber State shocks #3 seed North Carolina 76-74 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels were coming off back-to-back Final Four appearances and had never lost before in a first round game in the 64-team era.
2000
Rolando Blackman has his jersey #11 retired by the Mavericks. A four-time All-Star who retired as the franchise’s all-time scoring leader, Blackman was just the second Mavericks player to have his jersey retired, joining his longtime teammate Brad Davis.
2022
Gregg Popovich becomes the all-time winningest coach in NBA regular season history, with his 1,336th win to surpass Don Nelson, as the Spurs defeat the Jazz.
