The Pistons land Rasheed Wallace; J.J. Redick sets the Duke scoring record; Jason Kidd returns to Dallas

2004

Rasheed Wallace is traded from the Hawks to the Pistons in a three team deal that also includes the Celtics. The Hawks and Celtics each receive a first round pick from Detroit. Wallace had been traded just 10 days prior from the Blazers to the Hawks, and suited up in just one game for Atlanta. With the Pistons, Wallace slotted in as the starting power forward and was a crucial part of their ensuing run to the 2004 NBA title.


1940

Charles “Chico” Vaughn is born in Hodges Park, Illinois. At Egyptian High School in nearby Tamms, Illinois, he set the Illinois boys’ high school career scoring record with 3,358 points.

1980

NBA Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year Mike Miller is born in Mitchell, South Dakota.

1989

WNBA All-Star Danielle Adams is born in Silver City, Missouri.

1995

Nikola Jokic is born in Sombor, Serbia. He learned basketball from his older brother, Nemanja, who played college ball at Detroit Mercy.

2006

J.J. Redick becomes the all-time career leading scorer in Duke basketball history, surpassing Johnny Dawkins with his 2,557th point during a win over Miami (FL).

2008

Jason Kidd is traded from the Nets to the Mavericks, along with Malik Allen and Antoine Wright, in exchange for Maurice Ager, DeSagana Diop, Devin Harris, Trenton Hassell, Keith Van Horn, and two first round picks. This ends Kidd’s seven years in New Jersey and returns him to the franchise that originally drafted him in 1994.

2012

Serge Ibaka sets the Thunder single game franchise record with 11 blocks in a 124-118 overtime victory over the Nuggets.

2015

During a Thunder win over the Mavericks, Kevin Durant suffers a fracture in his foot, causing him the miss the remainder of the ’14-’15 season. As a result, the Thunder miss the playoffs for the first time in six years.

2017

Anthony Davis scores an NBA All-Star Game record 52 points to lead the Western Conference to a 192-182 victory over the East. The game was originally scheduled to take place in Charlotte but was re-located to New Orleans as a league stance against North Carolina’s anti-LGBTQ “bathroom bill.” The game is also notable as the All-Star debut for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

2020

Lasting less than one season, John Beilein resigns as Cavaliers coach and is replaced by J.B. Bickerstaff.
