Caitlin Clark becomes the all-time Division I NCAA women’s scoring leader, surpassing Kelsey Plum with her 3,528th point during an Iowa win over Michigan. Clark ultimately finished her career at Iowa with 3,951 points, which also surpassed Pete Maravich’s NCAA Division I men’s or women’s scoring record.


1964

Mark Price is born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

1982

Shameka Christon is born in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

1987

The Lakers become the first NBA team to field a roster with four #1 overall picks, when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1969), Magic Johnson (1979), James Worthy (1982), and the newly acquired Mychal Thompson (1978) all take the floor during a 106-103 victory over the Celtics.

1989

Mark Aguirre is traded from the Mavericks to the Pistons in exchange for Adrian Dantley. Aguirre would be a key component of the Pistons title teams in 1989 and 1990.

1991

The Celtics defeat the Lakers 98-85 in a regular season game, which serves as the final match-up between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Johnson later retired ahead of the ’91-’92 season, while Bird stepped down at the conclusion of it.

1994

Trailing 68-37 with 15:30 remaining in the game, Kentucky mounts a furious comeback to stun LSU, 99-95, in arguably the most impressive comeback in NCAA history and what Wildcats fans came to refer to as the “Mardi Gras Miracle.”

1997

Derrick Jones, Jr. is born in Chester, Pennsylvania.

2009

Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal share MVP honors at the All-Star Game, in an apparent denouement to their longtime, heated rivalry. Traded from the Heat to the Suns just nine days earlier, O’Neal put on a show for his new home fans, leading a 153-132 Western Conference victory in Phoenix in his 15th and final All-Star appearance.
