Green, who just edges out Karl Malone in fan voting at forward for the Western Conference. It’s the first and only All-Star appearance (let alone start) of Green’s career, while an upset Malone feigns injury to skip the competition..

Byron Beck is born in Ellensburg, Washington.

Wilt Chamberlain sets the NBA single game rookie record with 58 points (along with 42 rebounds) in a 127-117 Warriors win over the Pistons.
1969
Richard Petruska is born in Levice, Slovakia. In 1993, he became the first Slovakian-born player in NBA history, making his debut with the Rockets and eventually winning a title with the team at the conclusion of the ’93-’94 season.
1970
Chris Mills is born in Los Angeles, California.
1983
Allen Leavell ties Art Williams’ Rockets single game franchise record with 22 assists in a 114-111 victory over the Nets.
1986
Manute Bol sets the NBA rookie single game record with 15 blocks in a 111-103 Bullets win over the Hawks. It’s also the Bullets (now Wizards) franchise record, which Bol himself equalled again one year later in a win over the Pacers.
1995
Host Argentina defeats the United States 90-86 in the gold medal game of the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. Due to the timing of the tournament during the NCAA season, the U.S. roster was made up of CBA players, highlighted by Rumeal Robinson and Carl Thomas.
1997
Chuck Daly is honored by the Pistons with a ceremony in which the jersey #2 is retired, in honor of his two coaching championships. The number would later be un-retired in 2021 for Cade Cunningham, with the blessing of the late Daly’s family.
2015
Hassan Whiteside sets the Heat single game franchise record with 12 blocks in a 96-84 victory over the Bulls.
2016
DeMarcus Cousins scores 56 points for the Kings in a double overtime loss to the Hornets, the highest single game total for any player since the team re-located to Sacramento in 1985.
2024
LeBron James is named as a starter for the Western Conference in the upcoming All-Star Game, making history as the first player ever to be selected for 20 NBA All-Star rosters.
