John Stockton hits an assists milestone for the final time; the Lakers win their 33rd straight; Derek Harper is honored by the Mavs

1995

For the 34th and final time in his career, John Stockton compiles 20 or more assists in a game, finishing with 20 in a 111-90 Jazz victory over the 76ers. Stockton’s 34 games with 20+ assists is by far the NBA career record, with Magic Johnson in second place with 22.


1970

Todd Day is born in Decatur, Illinois.

1972

The Lakers defeat the Hawks, 134-90, for their 33rd consecutive win, the all-time NBA record. The victory improves Los Angeles’ record to 39-3 on the season, and 21-1 in road games.

1983

WNBA Finals MVP Cappie Pondexter is born in Oceanside, California.

1989

Larry Nance sets the Cavaliers single game franchise record with 11 blocks in a 104-96 victory over the Knicks. Nance also holds the single game blocks record for the Suns, set in 1988.

1999

The NBA Board of Governors ratifies the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the Players Association. It would be signed a couple weeks later, allowing the ’99-’00 season to begin after a lengthy owner lockout.

2018

Derek Harper has his jersey #12 retired by the Mavericks. He spent 12 seasons with the franchise and at the time of his 1997 retirement, was Dallas’ all-time leader in assists and steals.
