With a 60 point performance in a Philadelphia Warriors win over the Lakers, Wilt Chamberlain becomes the first and only player in NBA history to score 50+ points in seven consecutive games. The streak is broken one night later, when Chamberlain is held to 41 points in a loss to the Celtics. He ultimately scored 50+ points in 45 out of 80 games during the ’61-’62 season.
1999
Wilt Chamberlain has his jersey #13 retired by the Warriors posthumously, becoming the first player to have their jersey retired by three different NBA franchises.
2001
In one of the most hyped match-ups in their long-standing rivalry, Kentucky defeats Louisville 82-62. It was Louisville coach Rick Pitino’s first game against the Kentucky program he had previously coached for eight seasons and he was defeated by his Wildcats successor, Tubby Smith.
At 38 years and 315 days, Michael Jordan sets the record as the oldest player in NBA history to score 50 or more points in a game, finishing with 51 in a 107-90 Wizards victory over the Hornets. The record had previously been held by Alex English, who scored 51 in 1989 at age 35, and was eventually broken by Jamal Crawford at age 39 in 2019.
2020
The Bucks set the NBA single game three-point field goal record with 29 in a 144-97 victory over the Heat. They attempt 51 three-point field goals, for an efficient 56.9%. 12 different Milwaukee players make a three-point field goal in the game, led by Jrue Holiday’s six.
