1993

The Rockets defeat the Knicks 94-85 for their 15th consecutive win to open the ’93-’94 season. It ties the NBA record for winning streak to start a season, originally set by the ’48-’49 Washington Capitols. The Rockets lost the next night to the Hawks but then won seven more in a row to start the season with a 22-1 record.


1927

Ralph Beard is born in Hardinsburg, Kentucky. He starred for Louisville Male High School before matriculating at the University of Kentucky to play under Adolph Rupp.

1972

Alan Henderson is born in Morgantown, West Virginia.

1978

Jason and Jarron Collins are born in Los Angeles, California. They teamed up (along with actor Jason Segel) to lead Harvard-Westlake High School to back-to-back state titles.

1985

NBA champion Dorell Wright is born in Los Angeles, California.

1986

WNBA All-Star Renee Montgomery is born in St. Albans, West Virginia.

1991

Brandon Knight is born in Margate, Florida. He was named Florida Mr. Basketball and Gatorade National Player of the Year while leading Pine Crest High School to state titles in 2008 and 2009.

1997

De’Andre Hunter is born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After 24 years playing home games at the Capital Centre in nearby Landover, Maryland, the Wizards finally find a home in the city of Washington, D.C., at the newly opened MCI Center, where they defeat the SuperSonics 95-78.

2005

Jason Collier has his jersey #40 posthumously retired by the Hawks. Collier had passed away two months prior at age 28 due to a heart condition.

2017

Fat Lever has his jersey #12 retired by the Nuggets. Over six seasons in Denver, Lever was a two-time All-Star and retired as the franchise’s all-time leader in assists and steals.

2021

The Grizzlies defeat the Thunder 152-79, setting the NBA record for largest margin of victory, at 73 points. Jaren Jackson, Jr. leads Memphis with 27 points, while the Thunder shoot just 32.9% from the field.
