1950

Earl Lloyd breaks the NBA color barrier, becoming the first Black player in league history when he takes the floor for the Washington Capitols in a road game against the Rochester Royals. Lloyd finishes the game with six points and 10 rebounds as the Capitols are defeated 78-70.

Lucious “Luke” Jackson is born in San Marcos, Texas.

1951

On the eve of the ’51-’52 season, commissioner Maurice Podoloff suspends 32 players for life from the NBA for their involvement in the NCAA point shaving scandal. The list includes Indianapolis Olympians All-Star teammates Ralph Beard and Alex Groza.

John Lucas is born in Durham, North Carolina.

1965

Theodore “Blue” Edwards is born in Washington, D.C.

1968

Antonio Davis is born in Oakland, California.

1971

Elgin Baylor plays in the final game of his NBA career, scoring eight points in a Lakers loss to the Warriors. Five days later, he would announce his retirement due to lingering knee issues.

1997

Tim Duncan makes his NBA debut, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 107-96 Spurs win over the Nuggets.

1998

Violet Palmer becomes the first woman to officiate an NBA regular season game, as part of the crew for an opening night contest between the Grizzlies and Mavericks. Palmer would ultimately spend 18 seasons as an NBA official, eventually also becoming the first woman to officiate a playoff game in 2006.

2003

To mixed reactions from the Chicago crowd, the Bulls raise a banner in honor of longtime general manager Jerry Krause, who engineered the ’90s title teams but is also widely criticized for his inelegant re-building in the wake of their 1998 title.

2007

Kevin Durant scores 18 points in his NBA debut, a 120-103 SuperSonics loss to the Nuggets.

2011

Heat owner Micky Arison is fined $500,000 by the NBA league office for interacting with fans on social media regarding the ongoing lockout. Owners were specifically prohibited from speaking publicly about the collective bargaining negotiations.

2012

One day before the Brooklyn Nets are set to make their debut at the Barclays Center by hosting the Knicks in a season opener, the game is postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. It is re-scheduled for November 26 and the Nets prevail in overtime, 96-89.

2015

Steve Nash has his jersey #13 retired by the Suns. Over eight seasons in Phoenix, Nash won two league MVPs and set the franchise record for assists.
