Tim Floyd steps down as head coach of the Bulls, ending one of the worst coaching reigns in NBA history. Over three-and-a-half seasons in charge, Floyd compiled a 49-190 record and alienated most of his veteran players. Bill Berry steps in as interim coach for two games before eventually getting replaced by former Bulls star center Bill Cartwright.

Longtime ESPN analyst Jay Bilas is born in Rolling Hills Estates, California.

Bob McAdoo is traded from the Nets to the Lakers, with whom he revives his career as a bench specialist and wins two titles.
