Patrick Ewing sets the Knicks scoring record; Byron Beck is the first Nugget with a retired jersey

1993

Patrick Ewing becomes the all-time leading scorer in Knicks franchise history, surpassing Walt Frazier with his 14,618th point during a victory over the Lakers. Frazier is on hand as a television broadcaster and after the game, presents Ewing with the game ball. Ewing would eventually finish his Knicks career with 23,665 points, which is still far-and-away the record mark. Frazier is still second on the leaderboard.


1958

Jeff Ruland is born in Bay Shore, New York. He stayed close to home to play college ball at Iona University under coach Jim Valvano.

1966

NBA All-Star and Sixth Man of the Year winner Clifford Robinson is born in Buffalo, New York.

1977

Byron Beck has his jersey #40 retired by the Nuggets. Beck spent all 10 seasons of his career with the Nuggets, nine in the ABA and one in the NBA, making two All-Star teams, and retiring as the franchise’s all-time leading rebounder. He is the first player in Nuggets history to have their jersey retired.

1983

Kelenna Azubuike is born in London, England. His parents were both Nigerian doctors who moved to London for work, which then took them to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Azubuike played high school basketball.

Richard “Joey” Dorsey is born in Baltimore, Maryland. His nickname was granted to him by his mother, who claims that as a kid he would bounce around the house like a “Joey.”

1988

Alexey Shved is born in Belgorod, Russia (then the Soviet Union). He played for the Russian national team, earning a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics.

2008

Terry Porter has his jersey #30 retired by the Trail Blazers. Porter was a two-time All-Star for Portland and retired as the franchise’s all-time leader in assists.

2014

Peja Stojakovic has his jersey #16 retired by the Kings. Over seven-and-a-half seasons with Sacramento, Stojakovic made three All-Star teams and became the franchise’s all-time leader in three-point field goals.

2016

In 122-100 victory over the Pelicans, the Rockets set the NBA single game record for three-point field goals with 24 and for three-point field goal attempts with 61. The field goals made record would stand for just a few months before getting broken by the Cavaliers, while the Rockets would eventually break the attempts record themselves in 2019.
